Guasábara Shop is an artist collective offering a variety of creations to our customers and admirers. We are dedicated to keeping Caribbean traditions alive. The name Guasábara is a battle cry and expression that signifies that our culture lives on forever.
Wayza means mask in an Arawak language, which was spoken by the Taíno indians. The Taínos were the indigenous people in the Caribbean islands of Puerto Rico (where we are located), Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), and the Virgin Islands.
The tradition of carving coconuts into masks is related to Carnaval de Ponce which takes place toward the end of February every year.

We can create you a mask that adds a unique decorative touch to your home and will remind you of the islands.

Our resident artist, Richie, carves linoblocks to be printed onto rice paper or fabric. Pictured is a rendition of Don Quixote.
We love to meet our customers and welcome them to the Enchanted Island of Puerto Rico
